Cirrato Embedded for Legacy Hewlett-Packard MFDs Released!

It seems me and my team don't get any vacation :-)

Having just announced Cirrato's embedded secure printing solution for Sharp devices last week, here we go again. This time for the range of Chai devices from HP, which is their legacy platform. This follows the blog post a couple of months ago, in which I announced Cirrato Embedded Follow Print for HP's new Jedi platform based devices.

With the announcement today, it means Cirrato now supports a wide range of HP MFDs, so that even customers with a mix of old and new HP devices can get a global print management solutions with Follow Print capability.

The GUI is the same on both the previously supported Jedi platform, and the current Chai platform:

By using the application, users can print to a generic queue and pick up their job at any enabled device at a convenient time by authenticating at the device. Users typically find this very convenient, and it saves the company a lot of paper waste (people no longer print and forget to pick up their jobs).

Furthermore, the application can lock down your HP MFD until authentication occurs, after which you get access to various functions. This allows the company to track not ony printing but also for example copy and scan.

After authentication, you can manage your print jobs on the machine's touch screen:

You can authenticate in multiple ways, including username/password/domain, short ID or swiping your card on card readers attached via the USB port (for machines that have support for USB readers).

The follow print application takes advantage of the OXPd SDK which is HP’s new development library also used by future smart devices (HP’s latest series of devices).

Install through Web Jetadmin

Installation and configuration of the embedded application is done through HP Web Jetadmin, a tool which permits the administrator to install and configure the application on multiple devices in a go.

The tool is also used to configure various other operations on the device making it the only tool needed to manage both the application and the device.

Together with Cirrato, this means global enterprises can now add and manage follow print capability on all their HP printers, with no print spool servers and barely any WAN traffic.
